Isle of Wight scooter rally video

Here is the ScooterNova magazine video of another great bank holiday weekend at the BSRA Isle of Wight Scooter Rally.
Using a Sena 10C Pro helmet camera we captured our ride there and back and also shot footage on the island of the rally itself, including the custom show, traders and the ride out. All that and we still managed to work two days on the ScooterNova magazine stall as well! The soundtrack is provided by Smoove and Turrell – the headline act at the Scooter Rally on the Saturday night – along with the sweet purr of 2-stroke engines.
Can you spot yourself somewhere in the next four minutes?

ScooterExpo gallery

As stated in the latest edition of ScooterNova magazine itself, to compliment the review of the edition 215 that has just been published we have added this brief online gallery.
With most of the 100 scooters entered exhibited on the day there simply wasn’t the space in the magazine to show them all, so here are some of the photos we couldn’t fit in to the pages. You’ll find more images on the SLUK website too. As with all the running around and organising of the event on the day neither Iggy nor myself actually managed to capture every single scooter there on film (or rather the digital equivalent!).
Thanks again to all those who exhibited scooters, attended the event and helped out with its smooth running. The feedback from exhibitors, visitors and traders alike is that this event was up there with the best of them and everyone had a great day out. Sorted.

See you Sunday!

Scooters, traders, deals & more at ScooterExpo

This Sunday will see our new joint ScooterLab/ScooterNova show arrive at the hallowed halls of Alfreton Leisure Centre, a venue steeped in scootering history. Home of the iconic NSRA Trade & Custom shows from 1989-1991. And have we got a great line up for you!

We’d like to thank our sponsors for showing faith in us, Lexham Insurance (check out their stand for a chance to win a year’s free insurance) and Putoline Lubricants  (visit their stand to get all your questions about oils, eprotectors and octane boosters answered). Of course, we’d also like to thank all the other exhibitors and traders for jumping on board. We’d also like to thank all the showgoers who have helped to create a buzz about the event before it has even happened. We hope you all come along and have a great day out.

Here’s all the pre-show info you should need…

Glyn Dove’s Pseudo Satisfaction…
…and Nick Jolly’s Hall of Fame were at Alfreton in 1991. When was the last time you saw either of these scooters out and about? Both have been dusted off just for this show.
Wake has only been shown twice since it was rebuilt and featured in edition 10 of ScooterNova magazine. It will be at Alfreton at the weekend along with potentially two other ex-Jeremy Howlett bikes, including Dazzle.

Mike Karslake’s Model D

sn15lam150mk

When the late Mike Karslake’s Lambretta Museum went up for auction in the early 1990s, the scooters were scattered across the four corners, many to become insignificant Lambrettas once more.

However his restored Model D with the reg number LAM 150D stood out for all the right reasons, and the story of what happened to that and where it is now can be read in edition 14 of ScooterNova magazine, available now from our secure online shop.

Kelso here we come!

Bonnie Scotland is calling us this weekend for the third BSRA National scooter rally of 2019.
The Borders town of Kelso is another of our favourite rallies on the calendar, with the ride up featuring some fantastic roads to enjoy – if you get the chance, check out the A68, we love it – and the town itself always welcoming.
Just £20 gets you a weekend pass to all entertainment and camping at the Showground there which also hosts the scooter dealers/traders. ScooterNova magazine will of course be trading and you’ll find us by the entrance to the hall alongside Crusader Promotions with their rally T-shirts and patches.
We will have the brand new edition 13 with us, so if you want to know what it is like to own and ride a Lambretta Targa Twin 275cc, what kind of eye-catching Vespa hot-rod you can build for less than £1000, or be inspired by some amazing scooter touring, then edition 13 is perfect for you! We also have a stunning DDK painted Lambretta street racer, exclusive interviews with Ray Kemp of AF Rayspeed and John Horner of RW Horner Brothers, two GS Vespa, one built in Italy the other in Belgium (!) plus event and product reviews, news, an electric classic Lambretta, and all you need to know about powder-coating your scooter can all be found in edition 13. We will also have some back issues, merchandise and our new limited edition enamel pin badges. Plus signed copies of Sticky’s new ScooterBoys book too.
Have a safe ride folks and we’ll see you up there!

Scooter Shop Burglary

58373623_2170784483041284_343902893293699072_n

Sadly, at some time during the night of Sunday 21 April, our friends at Cornwall Scooter Centre were burgled with six classic scooters part of the haul that thieves got away with.

In what the police have suggested looks like an organised gang were behind, the shop in Bodmin had six scooters stolen belonging to various customers. These were:

  • Vespa T5 Millennium in pearlescent white, limited edition number 41 of 400 made
  • 1967 Vespa 150 Sprint with a brand new Malossi 225cc kit built on new Pinasco engine casings, new wiring loom and fuel tank that was a 10th Wedding Anniversary present
  • Lambretta SX150, white with a newly built RT195 with BGM Clubman exhaust
  • Spanish Lambretta Li white/purple, modified to take GP panelwork
  • Vespa P125X blue with new Polini 177 kit, black crash bars and several mirrors
  • Vespa 150 Super, white with dodgy floor and stand

At the time of writing it looks like the thieves also took cash from the shop’s safe but appear to have left tools and spare parts untouched.

Please keep your eyes and ears open for anything that may be offered for sale, whether complete scooters or parts and if you have any information of these scooter thieves please inform Bodmin Police or Cornwall Scooter Centre (01208 72966).

The same applies if you hear of anyone receiving stolen goods or trying to move them on.  Remember, as much as we all despise such thieving scumbags, such activities are only attractive to them if they can subsequently sell their stolen goods onwards. These scooters need to become as ‘hot’ as possible and if there is one good thing to say about social media in the 21st century, it’s that we can all come together to make things like this happen.
