While the scooter-rally season might be over, there’s no reason to pack the scooter away until next Easter. Here at ScooterNova magazine we just wrap up a little warmer than did a few months ago!
Today my Vespa T5 needed an MOT and with a receding back tyre it seemed like a sensible opportunity to fit some new rubber. SIP Scootershop in Germany recently sent us some of their latest own-brand tyres. This included the improved Performer 2.0 and new to the range, old style block tread named the Classic. Both tyres are rated to 150kmh, or 93mph is English money. Not many other tyres in 3.00 and 3.50×10 sizes can claim that. In fact SIP claim their Classic is the highest rated tyre on the market with that kind of pattern.
So with the winter months here and the weather they bring with them not great, the first to get fitted are the Classic tread type. They were easy enough to fit onto split wheel rims, and the initial run down the road with a Michelin S83 on the front and the Classic on the rear showed no adverse effects (I deliberately mixed them to see if there was a noticeable difference).
I’ll be running them over coming months and will of course report on them in due course in ScooterNova magazine. We’ll get the Performer 2.0 tyres fitted on to something soon too.
