Winter Product Testing

Just because it’s a little colder at this time of year doesn’t mean we here at ScooterNova magazine stop riding our scooters. In fact, the winter weather is the ideal opportunity to be testing certain products.
Here are a few things that we’ll be reporting on in a future edition of the magazine, but for all those scooterists riding throughout the year we thought we’d give you the heads-up about a few bits now.

Tucano Urbano Miss Lady jacket

Ann has been wearing the new Tucano Urbano ‘Miss Lady’ jacket recently which is waterproof, breathable, features body armour and ‘Reflective’ (reflective) inserts for safety at night. By the far the most impressive feature however seems to be the removable hood with a faux fur lining, to which she regularly exclaims, “How can they make it so soft?” Ladies, this could be your new cold-weather riding coat too…

Tucano Urbano Pol-Ice

Meanwhile I (Andy) have been trying out the Tucano Urbano Pol-Ice jacket, which is a winter version of their retro style summer Pol jacket. It’s a short jacket in a smart, retro style but so far it’s ticked the boxes for having body armour, plenty of useful pockets, and being so very warm indeed to ride around in, even on icy cold mornings. The lining is removable but I can’t see it being taken out for a while yet!

Speaking of riding, I recently fitted SIP Scootershop’s new Classic tyres to my Vespa T5. I started first with my usual Michelin S83 on the front and the new SIP on the rear to see how the profiles matched it felt very good. As for riding conditions, until now they’ve endured rain, frost, damp leaves and most of what winter throws at you except for the snow. So far so good as they say, and as these new tyres are rated to 93mph those with tuned classic scooters as well (myself included) will no doubt be interested in these too.

Keep an eye on future editions of ScooterNova magazine for more on these and plenty of other products that we evaluate while riding our scooters. Until then, here’s a small video out riding on the new tyres…

New Sena systems in Milan – Ride Connected

Rider communication experts Sena, had some tidy new products to show us in Milan, notably their new 30k intercom which uses their new ‘mesh’ system for networking up to 30 units!

It also utilises Bluetooth enabling mobile phone and satnav connection, and claimed range (depending on mode and connections) is up to 8km.

They also told us that their crash helmet range is finally due for launch in 2018. Produced with a composite fibre shell these feature integrated communications, noice reduction system and one version will also still include an integral action camera mounted on top. Very clever indeed.

Here at ScooterNova we already use Sena intercoms and camera while riding so we are very interested to see how these products develop.

As they say, watch this space.

Shoei Neotec II launched at Eicma

The only flip-front crash helmet I’ve chosen to wear is the Shoei Neotec, so the launch of the II version is of great interest to me.

One of the big improvements is thst it is preapred for an integrated Sena Communications bluetooth device, operated by simple to use buttons.

It also features a composite fibre shell, Integral sun visor, a newly designed cheek pad that is claimed to make it much quieter than the previous.

A new locking system has been added to the helmet too, to make sure that the front is secured when flipped up, important as the Neotec II is the first Shoei system helmet to feature dual homologation – that is as both an open and full face.

To be available in six sizes from XS to XXL in three shell sizes, we look forward to trying one when they arrive in 2018. www.shoeiassured.com
