Tweed accessories: something different?

Of the many positive things about the scooter scene, one of them is that the people involved within it are so diverse. So if you’re looking for something a little different   than the regular luggage carrying accessories, how about a bit of Harris Tweed?

Walker Slater are based in Edinburgh and London and produce a range of clothing and accessories using various tweeds, all of which have different and unique characteristics.

From the very light, soft cashmere and lambswool to the heavier Shetlands, robust Harris Tweed and tough border tweed. By the way, Harris Tweed is a cloth that has been hand-woven by islanders at their homes in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland and is protected by the Harris Tweed Act of Parliament 1993, so there!

Potentially of interest to scooterists are their range of Ernest Saddle Bags, a tweed and canvas covered bike bag, aimed at bicycles but we reckon would look equally at home on an old Vespa or Lambretta scooter (or indeed BSA, Maico, NSU, Zundapp or any other too!). The main body is covered by tweed, whilst the top flap and carry strap are made from coloured canvas. It has leather details such as the buckles on the front and 3 rear buckles for securing your bag to the bike or luggage rack, and the bag measurements are 36x25x17cm with a shoulder strap at longest, from shoulder to bag, 54cm. Colours include charcoal, green or brown herringbone, and the price is £128.

Walker Slater also produce a range of shoulder bags (or satchels if you prefer) in a couple of sizes. Using the same quality combination of tweed and leather, colour options include  a tan Prince of Wales, charcoal Herringbone and olive, with prices starting at £56.

So while we know these won’t be to everyone’s tastes, we reckon they’re quite neat and different enough to be cool – as well of course as good ol’ British products as well. So if you want either the authentic gentleman look to go with your classic vintage scooter, or are a budding hipster, then maybe you need to drop Walker Slater a line.
