If you have a few hundred miles of riding to do when attending a seaside scooter rally then ideally you want nothing less than the good weather we had over this recent Easter weekend. The ride over the Yorkshire Moors was particularly stunning it has to be said and one of the reasons we returned to this pretty coastal location.

The rally was organised by VFM as part of the BSRA calendar and over the weekend the town was full of scooters and their riders, buzzing around and socialising. The pubs were full of scooterists, a few even adding some music to keep us entertained like The Pier Inn which hosted the Whitby Soul Club on Friday and Saturday nights.

Saturday saw the masses descend on The Pavillion for the trade and custom show which included a small display of AF S-Type Lambrettas to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the famous dealer special, as well as a selection of older open-frame Lambretta models too.

For the Vespa fans a brace of metalflake Armandos P-Range specials greeted you upon entry, with an old smallframe and modern GTS showing the expanse of Piaggio’s finest on show.

Also in the Pavillion dealers were offering everything from clothes to essential spares as well as shiny accessories and impressive upgrades, the sun shining outside throughout tempting us all for a pint overlooking the harbour eventually.

One question; why drive a car to a scooter rally? To Whitby especially you’re missing a big part of the appeal – enjoy the ride, especially the rideout on the Sunday which took us to Goathland, home of TV’s Heartbeat. Winding its way through beautiful scenery it was just what the doctor ordered to blow away the cobwebs before a well deserved pint in the Aidensfield arms upon arrival!

Add all this to Whitby fish and chips, The Selcter playing live on Saturday night, a generally great buzz throughout town all weekend and a good ride home and what better way is there to spend a weekend on your scooter? See you at the next one…
